books! Books! Books!

Four recommendations that I couldn't be happier to pass along. I've read them all but also had readers send them to me separately to share on the blog.

The Martian (Andy Weir, 2011)
"Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there."

My notes: Parts of the book can get a little long on mechanical/engineering explanations.  I look forward to how the book is made into the upcoming movie, starring Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kate Mara and Kristen Wiig (!)

Disclaimer (Renee Knight, 2015)
"Deeply unsettling psychological thriller— already an international sensation—about a woman haunted by secrets, the consuming desire for revenge, and the terrible price we pay when we try to hide the truth."

My Notes: Couldn't put it down

Tell No One (Harlan Coben, 2009)
A message has appeared on his computer, a phrase only he and his dead wife know. Suddenly Dr. David Beck is taunted with the impossible—that somewhere, somehow, Elizabeth is alive.
Beck has been warned to tell no one.

My Notes: This was already made into a movie in France in 2006  (on Netflix right now with subtitles) and is rumored to be revamped for the American audience with a whole new cast. Very original with lots of plot twists.

The Rumor (Elin Hilderbrand, 2015)
Madeline King and Grace Pancik are best friends and the envy of Nantucket for their perfect marriages, their beautiful kids, their Sunday night double dates with their devoted husbands. But this summer, something's changed, and if there's anything Nantucket likes better than cocktails on the beach at sunset, it's a good rumor.

My Notes: Read over a relaxing vacation, the plot was not as predictable as the reader is lead to believe.  I've suggested it to my daughter to read - there is a whole level of teenage rumor spreading that gets out of hand as well.
