Hobby Club

I grabbed this graphic above off Google and didn't know what "ikebana" is.
So I already learned something new: it's Japanese art of flower arranging. (Hobby: learn a new word a day!)

Hobbyclub.org is a simple website.  But I think that is why it appeals to me.

It can be downright embarrassing not even knowing how to start a particular hobby.  Just go into a knitting shop and ask about how to start and see what happens.  You are either inundated with questions in languages you don't speak OR you are treated like someone with a recent serious head injury.

Hobby Club promises to take you through a year-long journey, one month at a time, via an email newsletter, with a new hobby.  Basically a tasting menu of twelve different things.  You may only find one new hobby, but at $12 for your investment, it might be just the thing. And they specifically say calligraphy and balloon animals are not on the list, so I am immediately at ease.

They started in January  so now two months in. I've signed up and will keep you posted.  I"ll see if I end up adding another hobby to my life; one of the others being this blog :)
