strandbeests

youtube.com/bbcOne

Believe it or not, this was one of the stories I tagged over a year ago as a blog entry idea.

What had stopped me from posting about it until today was the inability of anyone to view this artist's work in the U.S. (exhibits in Madrid, Tokyo and Paris are coming, but the next one is at the Peabody Essex Museum.)  Not that you may be in Salem, Mass anytime soon but at least there is an actual exhibit to link you to.

The fist time I saw kinetic artist Theo Jansen was on Vimeo video and then again on a TED Talk. Then I sort of forgot about his work.  But opening this Sunday's New York Times to see an article about his sculptures literally put a smile on my face.

After watching the short video above you get the general idea. I'm sure I'm not the only one captivated by these Mad Max skeletal "animals".

His website describes much more, including a link to purchase a kit to assemble your own mini-beest.
