courthouse dogs

Are you kidding me with that face??  photo: boredpanda.com
Makes perfect sense.

Courthouse Dogs are rigorously trained guide-dogs who bring comfort and calm to those testifying in court, especially when reliving a traumatic event or facing their accuser.

After reading a bit more on the company's website I learned the dogs are available to anyone in the justice system, including defendants and their witnesses.  A real effort has been made to make sure the presence of the dogs does not introduce a sympathetic prejudice for the witness.

I've often thought how surreal it must be in a courtroom, where traumatic or violent events are being discussed so clinically or matter-of-factly.

Maybe these dogs help.
