simultaneously impressed and frightened
At first glance, this seems amazing - a way to bring the look and feel of natural sunlight into spaces that are dark. This is a light installation/fixture, not a skylight. It is supposed to simulate not only the color of the sky and sunlight, but the feel that brings into a room.
And from having a skylight in my kitchen, I know how much of an impact it has on the space.
Here is CoeLux's promo video for the light. It's still in it's show-off stage, which is to say not widely produced and quite pricey. Let's just say they mention using it in museums.
But there is a certain creepiness I feel with artificial nature. It feels like one step closer to "Gattaca". I suppose its my age, but I'm feeling a little panicked lately about how swiftly technology is changing how virtual reality is celebrated when actual reality is not.
Maybe I'm just on edge from too many books like "The Circle" or a trailer for an upcoming movie I saw called "Unfriended", where hailed and coveted technology turns against you.
I would love to experience this new lighting in person and am sure it would sway me immediately into the impressed column. I'm sure it is quite something.
